Digital Diatribe Guy was present for the discussion on the current PDO and recent La Nina. His blog post is simply dishonest, as he already knows the reason for the low temps.

How is the post dishonest? All I did was quote a segment of a story, link to it, and make a comment.

Obviously, the comment on global warming was sarcastic. Maybe you missed the article last week that told us that the coolest year in a decade (2008) is actually an indicator of how severe global warming has become. My comment was an allusion to that, simply to make fun of the stupidity of the statement.

Beyond that, you’ll notice that my tags and categories specifically avoided “climate change” or “global warming” being used. That’s because it’s a weather event. I know that. Unlike AGW fear-mongers, I put anecdotal evidence in context. That is not to say that I don’t think there is a cumulative case to be made with anecdotes, but a single event never makes a case for anything.

And here we are. Vegas gets hit the hardest in 30 years. Now, suddenly, AGW proponents care about La Nina and PDO. yet, the last 30 years had elevated activity in both of these areas that coincided with the warming, and the warming was attributed to emissions. So don’t talk to me about dishonesty. I willingly admit and realize that temperatures have increased over the last 30 years. But I haven’t drunk the Kool-Aid as to the attribution. I can even accept some minimal level of contribution from emissions. But the idiot science the world has accepted is the ultimate dishonesty.

Increased sunspost activity with shorter cycles over the last 30 years…
Elevated El Nino persistencey over the last 30 years…
Elevated PDO persisitencey over the last 30 years…

And yet, it’s all because of CO2? Except for when there is cold weather, and then suddenly you are concerned that we aren’t pointing out La Nina and a PDO shift? Aren’t you basically hurting your own argument by actually acknowledging that warm U.S. weather in the 80s and 90s has some explanation other than CO2?

    – To a GW blog, on a weather event, after seeing an explanation which covers it on the same blog.

    – No, I have seen no such article, and don’t really believe one exists (at least, not one that should be taken seriously) until I do. AFAIK, cyclic variables by themselves neither confirm or deny the AGW signal.

    – What makes you think so?

yet, the last 30 years had elevated activity in both of these areas that coincided with the warming, and the warming was attributed to emissions. So don’t talk to me about dishonesty. Increased sunspost activity with shorter cycles over the last 30 years…

    – No relevance.

Elevated El Nino persistencey over the last 30 years…

    – Can’t find that in the literature, got any links?

Elevated PDO persisitencey over the last 30 years…

    – You made this one up. The PDO was discovered in the early 90’s, and one PDO can last 30 years all by itself.

And yet, it’s all because of CO2?

    – Certainly no one with the necessary expertise has said so. Straw man?

Except for when there is cold weather, and then suddenly you are concerned that we aren’t pointing out La Nina and a PDO shift? Aren’t you basically hurting your own argument by actually acknowledging that warm U.S. weather in the 80s and 90s has some explanation other than CO2?

    – Not only have I not acknowledged any such thing, because I haven’t seen it in the lit yet, it wouldn’t affect my case to any great degree. Unlike many denialists, I and most of the rest of the planet are aware that there are many variables (and many other GHGs) driving climate.
