Read Between the Lies

I found this link on another blog this morning. It’s from the Guardian and a bit of reading between the lines is required. I copied the document and included some translations in the text to help the less informed read it clearly. My editing is in red.

Obama targets US public with call for climate action
Climate impacts report exaggerates claims of flooding, heat waves, drought and loss of wildlife that will occur if Americans fail to act on global warming

The Obama administration is poised for its most forceful confrontation with the American public on the sweeping and life-altering consequences of a failure to act on global warming with the release today of a long-awaited scientific report on climate change.
The report, produced by more than 30 scientists and advocates at 13 government agencies expanding their control by pretending to deal with climate change, provides the most detailed collection of extremist science that government money can buy to date of the worst case scenarios of rising sea levels and extreme weather events: floods in lower Manhattan; a fabricated quadrupling of heat waves deaths in Chicago; pretend withering on the vineyards of California; the disappearance of wildflowers from the slopes of the Rockies; and despite measured increases in population the extinction of Alaska’s wild polar bears in the next 75 years.
Today’s release is part of a carefully crafted strategy by the White House to help build public support for Obama’s socialist revolution agenda and boost the prospects of a climate change bill now making its way through Congress.
For many Americans, the report released today, entitled Global climate change impacts in the United States provides the most tangible evidence of the economic costs of climate change conversion to socialism- from the pretend need to relocate airports in Alaska built on permafrost, to the increased need for pesticides in agriculture, to an electrical grid artificially held back by government straining to meet the increased demand for air conditioning in summer and ageing sewer systems brought to bursting point by heavy run-off in 770 American cities and towns.
Advocate scientists and environmentalists who had seen today’s report praised the breadth of its science as well as its accessible language.
“It’s a clarion call for immediate action,” said Amanda Staudt, a climate scientist at the National Wildlife Federation who has seen advanced drafts of the report but not the version released today. “This report basically describes a state of emergency. It says we need to act quickly and decisively giving climate science even more money. Every state is going to be affected, and every sector of the economy will be pushed further into the glorious and boundless hunger of socialism.” The final draft of today’s report uses climate models to map out starkly different futures if the current generation of Americans fails to act to reduce the carbon emissions that cause global warming.
If today’s generation acts on climate change, our computer models which fail reasonable quality verification show, the average US temperature will rise 0.4C-1.83C (4-6.5F) by the end of this century, said the draft, which was finalised in April.
If it does not, the same faulty computer models show, average temperatures could rise by about 2.1C-4.3C (7-11F) which allows us to pretend there will be catastrophic consequences for human health and the economy.
Americans have already been living with false evidence of changing climate, the report said. Over the last 30 years winters have grown shorter and longer and milder and colder, with a 2.1C (7F) corrected temperature rise in winter temperatures in the midwest and northern Great Plains. Hurricanes have become deadlier (can’t stand lies).
If climate change is left unchecked, the future promises to bring fake warnings of even more ferocious hurricanes to coastal regions – in the Pacific as well as the Atlantic, and blatant fear tactics describing punishing droughts to the south-west, and increasingly severe winter storms in the north-east and around the Great Lakes especially targeting the wealthiest areas of the country.
The human consequences, as envisaged by a result of accepting the draft, are similarily catastrophic: potential food shortages because of declining increasing prices wheat and corn yields in the breadbasket of the mid-west, increased outbreaks of starvation and epidemic diseases caused by malnutrition.
Despite the measured improvements in pollution levels, US cities will be choking because of deteriorating air quality; leisure pursuits will disappear. The report predicts that the ski season in the north-east will be 20% shorter or potentially each trip down the slope will end sooner. Sea level rise is exaggerated so foolishly that as for summer holidays, 14 of 17 North Carolina beaches will be permanently underwater by 2080, the draft forecasts.
Today’s release of the report was part of a methodically planned liberal leftist media roll-out by the Obama administration in transition to our new socialist lives.
Scientist/Advocates who have seen the report said the administration spent several weeks honing the language and graphics to make it accessible scary to non-scientists and to further exaggerate its core message: America must act now and leap with both feet into socialism because of climate change.
As part of the expansion of PR lies surrounding the release of the report, the administration approached the San Francisco leftist propaganda firm, Resource Media, which specialises in environmental campaigning deceit, to oversee the release, and produce a shorter and more digestible simply written brochure to trick the voters too stupid to read or understand the fake message in today’s report for wider public distribution.
On the morning of 16 April, at a meeting in Washington (pdf), more than 30 National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administratation scientists, climate change advocates from a number of universities, leftist environmental activists and leftist media strategists discussed how to engage various communities with the findings of the report little red book – town mayors, religious groups, even kindergarten pupils.
Suggestions raised at the meeting for key messages from the White House included “fake green jobs”, “middle class initiative/payoffs to get voters to accept socialism” and “energy independence/fake solutions to government mandated energy shortages“.
“The implied message here is that we can either pay in a more controlled way to bring about changes in our energy political system which we can do in a way which non-braindead don’t really think will benefits for jobs … or we can do nothing now live free but we are still going to have to pay in the longer term because the socailist revolution is coming,” said Richard Moss, a former director of the US climate change science programme and vice-president for the World Wildlife Fund and part-time collector of government power and money.
The release appeared timed to help Leftist Democratic leaders in Congress meet an ambitious target of passing a climate change bill through the house of representatives by 26 June. The Democratic speaker fantastically power-mad, Nancy Pelosi, wants to hold a vote before the house escapes up for the 4 July Independence Day holiday.
But the bill has run into strong mild opposition from some saner Democratic members of Congress, especially those from agricultural states who say know damn well that the point of putting limits on greenhouse gas emissions is to hurt economic interests. That could complicate Pelosi’s evil plans of getting the money stealing climate bill passed through various committees by this Friday, 19 June, and put to a vote next week.
The report represents exaggerations of the combined expertise of more than 30 scientists and advocates working at 13 government agencies which stand to gain funding by dealing with climate change. Although Congress had mandated annual updates on the science continued funding of climate change, the Bush administration managed to avoid being forced into a fake comprehensive report on fabricated climate change impacts. Today’s document is the first propaganda exercise of this magnitude in eight years.

Jeff: I also posted this at CA.
To the editors of the Guardian:
re: the following article on Climate Impacts
Perhaps your correspondent, and editor, would like to check the conversion of degrees C to degrees F? An example:
2.1C-4.3C (7-11F)
My calculator says 2.1 deg C-4.3 deg C = 3.8 deg F – 7.8 deg F.
All the conversions in the article are wrong. The error is not even consistent, as the ratio changes.
It doesn’t give me much confidence in the rest of the science, when very simple conversions can’t be made.

#1 They updated the article to fix the discrepancy.

That was quick. But no acknowledgment of the original error.
Jeff Id said
The article is one continuous error. Why acknowledge any?

They keep mentioning ‘30 scientists’ as if that were impressive. Thirty doesn’t sound like a lot to me, considering the amount of power their report is wields. Thirty men release a report that will entirely reshape the economy (and therefore the lives) of every person living in the most powerful economy in world history, and therefore affect almost every person living on the globe now and for at least the next 100 years, and somehow I am supposed to be impressed? Well, I mean, there were thirty… how could thirty people be wrong about anything?

This is the worst piece of rubbish I’ve read in a long time. It’s full of exaggerations but not just that it’s also got flat lies. Lies meaning intent to deceive with foreknowledge.

It used the 08 hockey stick, an artifact of the most flamboyantly undisguised HS generating math I’ve ever imagined.

Actually, Jeff, you’re wrong about the article being completely full of lies. This one statement, “leisure pursuits will disappear.” is absolutely true, but “leisure pursuits” won’t disappear because of climate; nobody will have the money (time, energy – you name it) to do anything but desperately try to put a little food on the table for their impoverished families.
And people thought the Great Depression was bad. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet!

I can’t take credit, but I will be using it often.
I really have nothing else to say. I feel dumber for having even read that tripe. Except for the red stuff…

So they used the temperature conversion F=9/5C+3.2

How the zarqon do they get away with this crap? It’s infuriating!

Mike: good catch. I was trying to figure out where they screwed up, and I couldn’t replicate it.

Ah, the favoured paper of the British Left Wing. Doubtless Monbiot will be spouting about this, whenever his column is published.

Joe Romm is in love with this report at http://ClimateProgress.org/ I think I’ve already been banned from this blog, for pointing out that the 2000 report needed a warning label that it didn’t meet the Federal Data Quality Act.

#15 I left a comment there after reading yours. Let’s see.
It seems like another leftist blog full of circular celebratory idiocy about the joys of government control.

I happened to be at my in-laws when this story ran on NBC Nightly News tonight. I had to walk out of the room before I lost it. If you think reading it is bad, try watching it.
Frustrating doesn’t even begin to describe it. The only thing lying between the truth & the lies is the media now. There’s no evidence left to support this nonsense.
And yet I’ll wake up tomorrow, and this will be all over the front page of the newspaper, and some of my co-workers will be fretting over it.
Dammit, I need another beer….

I’ve had one cut, where I linked to an old report, and the site has the disclaimer about not being up to snuff.
Kudos to CEI for getting that in at least.

I’ve got a couple of posts left in moderation over on climateprogress which seem to be in permanent moderation. What is it with lefties that they don’t allow people to have alternate opinions.

“What is it with lefties that they don’t allow people to have alternate opinions.”
If they did, they wouldn’t be lefties. It’s right out of Lenin’s playbook and it’s been followed by every lefty regime since.

As a once regular reader of the Guardian, I learned long ago to avoid any article written by Suzanne Goldenberg. When she was the paper’s Jerusalem correspondent, her columns were remarkable only for their crude and sophomoric anti-Israel viewpoints. She may be in a new role, but her modus operandi is unchanged – personal belief before fact. The only reason to pick up the Guardian today is for their still excellent sports coverage. The rest of the paper is simply an opinion rag masquerading as news.

On the bright side, there is an inverse relationship between the shrillness of the rhetoric and the “average” folks’ acceptance of any such report.
The percentage of folks accepting the AGW hypothesis has been dropping and this report won’t affect that trend, particularly since there has been scant recent evidence of any of these alarming (or alarmist) trends.
