Congratulation Ids. Something that might be fun a little later will be to record early vocabulary – word, pronunciation as best you can make it out, and meaning. Our daughter went from two or three, depending on what she got credit for, to nine over a month or so, then it was over forty the following week and then very quickly it was too much trouble to count and we gave up.
kids are a revelation. Having been one is little preparation.
Really have fun.
best regards, John

Thanks everyone, that whole birth thing is pretty amazing. After seeing it twice, I still don’t know how they do it. Our son looks wonderful and is doing all the stuff baby’s are supposed to do.

Congratulations! Granted, the first two years or so of baby wrangling is the most difficult part, but longer term, being a parent is the most wonderful thing you will ever do in your life.
Uh…maybe I shouldn’t ask, but what’s young Ethan’s average annual temperature? (Feel free to interpolate any missing data.)

My dad told me that the best years of my life would be when the children were young. He was right (I am now 79). Enjoy, love the little guy, and keep his mother happy! Congrats.

The most wonderful, blessed event in anyone’s life — aside from finding one’s soul mate. And the “birthing process”, from Mom’s or Dad’s perspective, is an absolute miracle, even through the pain. How does this tiny little bit of life have the strength and desire to grow into an intrepid blogger?
Congratulations, Jeff Id, and to Mother and Ethan Matthew, too. Thanks for including us.

JEff, Congrats!!! What a great feeling. Our two kids are now 36 and 42, but, but…, wait til that first grandchild comes along. GrandMoms can go so gushy, and fall immediately and completely in love. Course GrandPops are more reserved.

The new infant event is simply unbelievable, and e-matthew evokes fond memories. He may be able to read a new edition of Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds, one with a chapter featuring Gore, Mann, Jones, etc.
Would he possibly be about 49 cm tall, assuming they measured him while standing?

Congratulations to you and your wife, Jeff. May your son grow up to love math! Anyway, I was under the impression, from your occasional comments, that you didn’t have any time for that sort of thing.

AEGeneral, spoken like a somewhat left-out Dad. Miracles should never “pass quickly” — too soon they are adolescents and then out of the house.

#68 – Nah, I’m being a little facetious. Age 1-3 are the fun years for me. Until then, they’re just kinda “there.”
And I went thru cholic with the first & acid reflux with the second. No fun.

Congratulations Jeff,
You probably already know this, but here are my two tips for you and every other parent:
1) Keep a shop vac permanently setup for wet pickup in the closet or basement.
2) If you are blessed enough to manage it, follow Bob Seger’s lead and spend as much of your time as you can with the kids during the early years.

Just an odd thought.
Have you considered converting your son’s weight to eV and then converting that to Temperature using 11,605 deg K/eV (aprox) ?

Congrats Jeff (and significant other, who did most of the work to this point!). My first son was named Ethan, and my second Matthew, so you at least know how to choose good names!
Jeff Id said
Thanks everyone. So many wishes! We are truly blessed.
The kid rolled himself over 2 times already. They are supposed to be stationary for at least a few months.
Layman Lurker said
What wonderful times these must be for you. For ours, I remember the thrills of the early years as if it were yesterday.
Jeff, Ethan obviously has great potential. If you rehearse your tAV rants outloud in the nursery you will have the little gaffer posting here before he is in grade school.

Hope you are getting some sleep. But I bet you are not.
BTW, your son may always be stronger than hell. My third son rolled over at day three and he could 40 pushups before his older brother could do one.
Have fun with the little one.
