Solar Flare – Northern Lights Tonight and Tomorrow

Solar Tsunami to Strike Earth Tonight

From the finest news organization on the planet – that’s not saying much though guys.

From this link:

Skywatchers at high latitudes could be in for a spectacular treat of northern lights, the aurora borealis, Tuesday and Wednesday: After a relatively quiet stretch, it appears the sun is ramping up its activity.

The sun’s surface erupted early Sunday, blasting  tons of plasma (ionized atoms) into space. These atoms are headed toward Earth and could create a stunning light show in the process.

I’ve got no more time than that, but it’s pretty awesome.

Global Temperature Deconstruction – McKitrick

Posted by Jeff Condon on August 3, 2010

Watts Up With That has run an article on an important paper by Ross McKitrick covering the major issues of the global temperature record.  The article collects and describes the data and problems as we have discussed so many times here.

While we have covered many of the points here and on other climate blogs, I’m guessing that most who are familiar with the land and ocean quality problems will still learn from this article – I learned some new stuff.   Ross meticulously explains the major datasets, non-independence, urbanization, collection problems, and presents what I believe are the only reasonable conclusions.

One example of the conclusions in the report which I cannot emphasize enough is that when so many of us reproduce the same results from GHCN temperature data, the conclusion is not that “climatology is correct”, just that the methods of averaging the same data don’t cause serious problems.

The similarities across all methods imply that given the input data, the subsequent processing steps do not make much difference to the global average.

Nothing else can be concluded from Zeke, Nick, tAV or others results.  How simple and relaxing is that.

Imagine the sky, free from cloud.

Imagine your mind, free from daily grind.

Imagine the trees, free from CO2………..

and see where that gets you.

AP TX

You know, the AP might have to sue me for this, but it’s their own fault for writing this leftist drivel.  The article, as written is below in black with appropriate translation in red.

By ARTHUR MAX (AP) – 13 hours ago

AMSTERDAM — The failure of a climate bill in the U.S. Senate is likely to weigh heavily on international negotiations that begin Monday on a new agreement to control global warming.

Blame the US for not complying with global leftist opinion.

The decision to strike the bill from the Senate’s immediate agenda has deepened the distrust among poor countries about the intentions of United States and other industrial countries to cut greenhouse gas emissions that power their wealthy economies but risk causing the Earth to dangerously overheat, say climate activists.

Poor communist and muslim countries don’t trust capitalist countries to turn over their cash voluntarily. Michael Mann and Gavin Schmidt disagree with the reticence.

A split between rich and poor nations has characterized the talks since they began 2 1/2 years ago, but it widened after the disappointment of the Copenhagen climate summit last December that fell short of any binding agreement and produced only a brief document of political intentions.
