Isn’t it time we gave a little recognition to our friend – Anthropogenic Global Warming

Raise the price of energy, we need to save the planet

…My hands are cold

…My fingers are cold

…I can’t see the drive

…I think my nose is actually froze

Turn down the heat, we must conserve

…My neck is cold

…My ears are cold

…My back is hurt

…My cheeks are froze

No incandescent bulbs, we must be efficient

…My eyes are cold

…My legs are cold

…My ears hurt

…My toes are probably solidly froze

We need emissions standards for small engines

…My car is cold

…Our school is closed

…My trees are ice and our yard is snow

…Our squirrels have likely froze

We must stop global warming before the planet burns

…Ice cold hair

…Ice cold nose

…Ice cold feet, especially toes

…Fortunately for me, my brain has still not froze.

Even at minus 3 Fahrenheit (-19C) I tell myself that we must thank fossil fuels for providing a fraction of the extra almost 1 degree of warmth we have luxuriated in this winter. Without it, we would have been a numbing minus 4 degrees F and that would have been a disaster!

    1. If we fail to get honest about basic interactions between nucleons and develop methods to safely use nuclear energy before the next cyclic slowdown of solar activity, . . .

    2. Jeff,

      I see these encouraging signs of a convergence of opinions on the Climategate saga:

    1. Yeah it’s times like these that I wonder why I want to leave.

      And then summer comes and I remember again.

  1. The side streets in Rockford are iced over. On average (what is that?) it starts warming up around the end of Jan to around the middle of Feb around here. About 5 to 20 days from now.

  2. Hey Jeff, head down to the nice warm library and look this gem up.

    An extrapolation from present emission trends and moderate climate sensitivity yields a rate of 0.3°C per decade. At that rate, after 20 years Chicago’s summers would be as warm as New Orleans’ are now.

    Science vol 241, July 1, 1988, p. 23

    Now granted, they did say summers…

    1. A “moderate” sensivity, that’s a good one. It’s also laughable to imagine .6 degrees would show up on that spatial scale amidst the noise, or that the temperature difference between those locations is really so small. Surely they have mixed there projections up, here, and meant to add “and in another 80 years”

      But mentioning summer is probably meant for maximum shock value: the winter changes were probably expected to be much larger. You know unless their model is complete crap, since when there ”was” warming it was accompanied by decreased temperature variance.

  3. I live in a part of Australia where, in mid-winter, the overnight temperature can occasionally get down close to 0C (32F). I cannot, for the life of me, understand those people in the northern hemisphere who do not want it to be just a little bit warmer – if only to save on shovelling snow from the driveway.

  4. Dislike cold winters? Move to the Netherlands. Though we are at 52 degrees N, I haven’t seen a single snowflake this year (not even a wet one), and the minimum temperature this winter has been 29F. Maybe, maybe, it’ll finally get a bit colder this week.

  5. Well we decided to throw about 8 inches on top of that picture overnight. It took 3 hours to get our 4 wheel drive car from the driveway. 😀

    A little warming really isn’t a bad thing. Who came up with the nutjobbery that it would be in the first place.

    1. I know, right? I’ve been making that case for years now and I can’t believe how hard a sell it is, even though it is literally true, mainstream science even.

  6. The squirrels in south Michigan are hanging in there (I can tell by the fact my bird feeders aren’t). Should be a bumper crop of woodpeckers this year, as they will have plenty of unhatched ash borer larvae to feast on all summer.

    If Woody shows up around here, I’ll ask him if he’s ever met the proprietor of this blog. IMO of the 3 top blogs (AW’s, SM’s and tAV), Jeff’s is tops for humor and sarcasm. Thanks for the laughs.

    1. Thanks for the kind words. We lost a suit suet feeder last week to a squirrel. The critter got the thing open!

      They are all on the same game plan apparently.

  7. “…

    Then I made a hike, for I didn’t like to hear him sizzle so;
    And the heavens scowled, and the huskies howled, and the wind began to blow.
    It was icy cold, but the hot sweat rolled down my cheeks, and I don’t know why;
    And the greasy smoke in an inky cloak went streaking down the sky.

    I do not know how long in the snow I wrestled with grisly fear;
    But the stars came out and they danced about ere again I ventured near;
    I was sick with dread, but I bravely said: “I’ll just take a peep inside.
    I guess he’s cooked, and it’s time I looked”; … then the door I opened wide.

    And there sat Sam, looking cool and calm, in the heart of the furnace roar;
    And he wore a smile you could see a mile, and he said: “Please close that door.
    It’s fine in here, but I greatly fear you’ll let in the cold and storm—
    Since I left Plumtree, down in Tennessee, it’s the first time I’ve been warm.”
