Because batteries, while wonderful, are an awesome form of low density energy storage. If only we could think of something that was higher density?

At least, of the range of fossil fuels. Fracking has the least impact on the surface (land use changes affect the climate as well) and gas has much cleaner combustion products. Gas moves in efficient pipes instead of 19th century railroad cars. Gas is GREAT STUFF!
Which is, I suspect, why the Biden administration is trying to demonize it. Starting with ovens/ranges rather than furnaces, water heaters, BBQ grills, back-up generators, and other consumer products…
